Effect of UV intensities on electro-optic properties of polymer dispersed liquid crystal
Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal (PDLC) is a high performance electro-optic material. The electro-optical properties of PDLC have great influence on the performance of applications based on PDLC. In this paper
we studied the effect of UV intensities on electro-optic properties of PDLC. PDLC samples are fabricated by polymer induced phase separation (PIPS) method initiated by UV irradiation. Four PDLC samples were prepared using four UV light intensities of 1 mW/cm

. The electo-optical properties of voltage-transmittance curve
response time and hysteresis effect are studied. With the increase of the UV intensity
the threshold voltage and saturation voltage increase. The rise time increases while the decay time decreases for high intensity UV irradiation. The hysteresis effect also becomes severe. This work suggests that it is possible to optimize the electro-optical properties of PDLC by adjusting the UV intensities and obtain PDLC based devices that possess good electro-optical performance.
