To overcome the deficiencies in color gamut of the common Liquid Crystal display system
a wide color gamut liquid crystal display system is designed with white and emerald light-emitting diodes as the backlight
which is based on the existing color gamut expansion technology. This paper analyzes the color gamut of the common display system
and uses the emerald light-emitting diode with a dominant wavelength of 501 nm as the extended backlight source to maximize the gamut coverage. It expands the blue-green area that cannot be displayed by common display systems. It analyzes the system's color gamut theoretically. And it describes the circuit implementation of the functional modules in detail. such as
the backlight source array
data forwarding module
etc. Experimental results indicate that the color gamut of wide color gamut liquid crystal display system in this paper expands the blue-green areas and its color gamut coverage can achieve 45.65%. Compared with other multi-primary color display systems
the wide color gamut liquid crystal display system not only simplifies the complexity of hardware design
but also can reproduce the colors of more blue-green areas.
