In order to reduce the power consumption of the TFT-LCD
some methods were studied in this paper. These methods include pixel structure
drive method
circuit design and backlight drive based on the 11.6 HD
14 HD and 14 FHD. First
the influence of pixel structure on power consumption is studied which use different pixel structure (dual Gate+normal pixel structure and dual Gate+Z inversion pixel structure) under a variety of pixel driving method. Second
the influence of pixels load and pixel driving signal which include Gate and source drive signal on power consumption is studied. Finally
power consumption between PWM dimming and mix-mode dimming at the same BLU is compared. The result shows the pixel structure
pixel loading and driving method have great influence on power consumption. For example
dot inversion will add 38.5% than column inversion in power consumption at 14HD product. When data load rose 10%
there is about 8% of power consumption added. When the VGH increase about 1 V
there is 1.35 mW power added. Mix mode dimming can decrease power about 2%~15% than the traditional PWM dimming under different brightness. Therefore
the optimization design of these methods can effectively reduce the power consumption of TFT-LCD.
