A cholesteric liquid crystals (Ch-LCs) polymer film with broadband reflection was fabricated induced by UV Absorbing Dye (UVAD). The results demonstrated that the gradient of UV light intensity forms cross the polymer film by adding the UV-absorbing dye to the Ch-LCs acrylate mixture
resulting that the pitch gradient forms in the Ch-LCs polymer film. After UV irradia- tion
a UVAD doped Ch-LC film can reflect incident light with the bandwidth over the visible light spectrum. The Ch-LCs polymer film with broadband reflection may be applied in at smart windows for the control of solar light and optical functional films.
