Chiral mesoporous materials assembled with nanocrystalline cellulose and its application in separation of chiral drugs
“New progress has been made in the research of cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) in the field of materials science. CNC is a nano material prepared by cellulose hydrolysis catalyzed by sulfuric acid, with a diameter of about 5-15 nanometers and a length of about 100-300 nanometers. Research has shown that CNC can form liquid crystal phases with chiral nematic structures in water, and when dried into solid films, CNC can maintain the helical chiral nematic sequence and assemble into layered structures. This discovery provides new ideas for the self-assembly process of CNC. In the process of CNC self-assembly, sol gel precursors, such as Si (OMe) 4, can be added. With the evaporation of solvent, these precursors undergo hydrolysis and condensation, thus forming chiral nematic silica/CNC composites. This composite material, after calcination treatment, can break the cellulose template and leave a mesoporous silica film with a high surface area chiral nematic structure. In addition, the study also explored the possibility of using similar methods to prepare organic silica or titanium dioxide thin films. These films have potential application value in fields such as filters, reflectors, and thin films. More importantly, the synthesized chiral mesoporous silica is used as a chiral chromatographic stationary phase material for separating chiral drugs. The experimental results show that the chiral separation effect is significant, which provides new methods and ideas for CNC in the development of chiral new materials. The results of this study not only enrich the application fields of CNC, but also open up new directions for research in the field of materials science, laying the foundation for the development and application of chiral materials in the future.”
