The voltage grading of polyimide or color filter is not ignored in the normal liquid crystal displays or liquid crystal on silicon mode. This paper derived the voltage grading equation for the liquid crystal layer and equivalent dielectric constant of liquid crystal layer using the capacitance model. The effects of thickness of polyimide and liquid crystal layer on the voltage grading of liquid crystal layer were numerical simulated. The results should show a significant help on designing the configuration of liquid crystal display.
