A compound 4'-butyl -3- fluoro -biphenyl was synthesized conjugated with Suzuki from Butyl-bromobenzene and fluorobenzene boronic acid
which generated 3 - fluoro -4- iodine -4 '- butyl - biphenyl under low temperature. Then 3 - fluoro -4 - iodine -4 '- butyl- biphenyl reacted with five types of substituted benzene acetylene
generating five fluorinated biphenyl alkyne monomer liquid crystals via Sonogashira reaction. The structures and parameters of the products were determined. It was found that these compounds has higher optical anisotropy (
n
) and wider range of nematic phase.
